FC Mobile Beta How to play Gauntlet Mode
Squad depth is the mechanic. Stars are the score. House Rules are the trap.
Gauntlet Mode is the Limited Beta’s answer to “my 128 OVR first XI can play every event.” EA’s description is short: rounds of matches with their own objectives, Traits, and House Rules, and each player item has a limited number of appearances. You progress by winning and collecting Stars for rewards. This guide is how to not burn your entire attack on match one.
If you have not saved Game Plans yet, do that first. Gauntlet will ask you to change shape under House Rules, and four named plans are faster than rebuilding 4-4-2 with your thumbs while the countdown ticks.
What a round actually is
Open Gauntlet Kickoff and you will see a set of challenges, a Star bar, and a reward chest (EA’s own screenshot is the overview image energy). Each match inside the round can:
- Demand a scoreline, a location to score from, or a clean sheet.
- Apply a Trait that buffs or nerfs a role (extra fatigue, stronger headers, slippery keepers).
- Apply a House Rule that changes the sport (multiplied goals from outside the box, no slides, forced offside trap).
Community clips of 20–0 scores are usually House Rule math, not the live H2H engine. Do not rebuild your entire tier list around a 3x extra-time goal rule you will never see in Division Rivals.
Appearance limits (the real skill check)
You cannot field the same XI, and you cannot hide the same super-sub on the bench every time. Appearances include starters and substitutes. Plan three layers:
- Primary XI for the fairest match in the round.
- Secondary XI with different names but similar PlayStyles so Rapid and Anticipate still exist.
- Emergency bench of high-stamina Relentless cards for House Rules that add minutes.
FIFAMobileGuide’s write-up matches what testers see: after a match you can manually replace players who have no appearances left, or tap Auto Recommend to fill eligible players near the suggested OVR. Auto Recommend is a time-saver, not a tactician. Glance at PlayStyle icons before you accept a team of five Clinical Finishers and zero passers.
You are not always knocked out on a loss
Unlike some knockout tournaments, you can keep walking the Gauntlet after a defeat, with worse rewards. That is not permission to sandbag. Stars gate the chest. Play to the objective: if the card says “score from a specific area,” stop spamming near-post Rapid cuts and drag a Dead Ball specialist to the right zone instead.
Match-day checklist
- Read House Rules before you copy last match’s Game Plan. Ultra Attacking into a rule that punishes high lines is a self-own.
- Assign set-piece takers who have Dead Ball or Penalty Expert. Gauntlet fouls are common when Slide Tackle is spicy.
- Keep one Driven Lob Through passer on the pitch if the opponent AI sits on a high line.
- Spend Relentless cards when the rule adds extra time; spend Bruiser cards when the rule turns the midfield into a rugby pitch.
- After the whistle, retire anyone at 0 appearances. Do not “just one more” them onto the bench — that still spends the counter.
Rewards and why grinding is optional
The beta has no purchases. Gauntlet rewards (creators mention shards and similar test currencies) exist to let you feel a loop, not to build a tradable club. Stop when you understand the mode. Your live Rank Up Tokens will not appear here, and nothing you earn will survive 13 September 2026.
If the reward chest is the only reason you queued, remember the Guest reset. File a forum post instead: which House Rule felt unreadable, which Auto Recommend blunder cost a Star. That is the test’s job.
Linking Gauntlet to the rest of your squad
Depth is a squad building problem. If your club is one god-tier attack and silvers everywhere else, Gauntlet will expose it by match two. Duplicate identities (two Gold Rapid wingers, two Anticipate CBs) matter more than a single 125 OVR highlight card.
Formation flexibility matters too. A 4-4-2 that you love in Rivals may be illegal or weak under a five-at-the-back House Rule. Keep a 3-back and a 5-back plan in the formations tier list sense even if you never use them on the live app.
Common failures
- Burning the star striker on a tutorial-easy opener. Save them for the House Rule that bans your formation.
- Ignoring the objective. Extra goals that do not match the brief may not pay Stars.
- No second passer. When Incisive Through is tired, Driven Lob Through on a different card should exist.
- GK with no Deflector against rebound rules. Some Traits spam shots; punching into the striker is a wipe.
When a round is done, jump back to getting started if you still have not saved four Game Plans, or to what’s new if you want the feature list without the match checklist.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers testers actually search for.
Can I use the same squad for every Gauntlet match?
No. Appearance limits cover starters and the bench. Build rotation with squad building.
Does a loss end the Gauntlet?
You can usually continue with worse rewards. Stars still matter, so play the objective.
What are House Rules?
Per-match modifiers (scoring zones, multipliers, extra fatigue). They are not the live H2H rulebook. See what's new.
Should I trust Auto Recommend?
Use it to fill legal OVR, then swap PlayStyle holes. The PlayStyles guide tells you what to look for.
Do Gauntlet rewards transfer to live FC Mobile?
No. Guest progress dies with the test. Live rewards still come from codes.
